Since I was in my school days, India Pakistan rivalry over Kashmir conflict echoed in my ears. Though I was not enough mature to understand the subject but a deep sense of patriotism was poured in my heart. I was perplexed when I heard that Pakistan is soliciting help from United Nations and International court of justice. Time passed away, dreams remained dreams and the situation between the two countries, while grim, has no bright spots. Recent statement by US secretary of state John Kerry proves that it has no interests in peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue so why should US indulge in the problem. John Kerry made it clear that US will not back either side and the disputants should settle the Kashmir dispute bilaterally. The so called international organizations- United Nations, international court of justice are there to safeguard the rights of already powerful nations in general and they are the servants of big powers- these organizations help the powerful countries ( Russia, USA, China, France, UK) to maintain their vicious hegemony in the world in particular.
Furthermore, it is obvious from the statistics that in the race of construction and accumulation of weapons to destroy the peace and order of the world, the above countries are leading. USA is on the top of table investing 528 billion dollars on the formation of weapons, China is second country investing 228 billion dollars, and Russia is third in the rank with the investment of 85 billion dollars. Military expenditures of France and United Kingdom are 63 billion and 57 billion dollars respectively.
Initially, construction of weapons was a state entrepreneurship and now a day, arms trade became private entrepreneurship. Defense companies are getting benefits from these sales of weapons and few defense contractors include; Lockheed Martin Corporation- specialized in the production of military jets and helicopters, Northrop Grumman corporation- benefits from the sale of jets as well, and Raytheon company which benefits from the sale of missile system.
The business of arms and weapons is the main component of these countries and these countries also invite more countries to get involved in the business. USA sold 33 billion dollars weapons to the gulf countries last year, the biggest importers of US weapons are India and Saudi Arabia, Pakistan is not far behind its rival in this business. These countries should take care of themselves that they are responsible for the deterioration of the peace of the world. Now, I think, these countries sign accords with small economies to sell their weapons to them and making the world war ground because they don’t have any other option regarding how to dispose these deadly weapons except trading. To be simple, the reason behind the strength of these countries is their technology and armaments. What is our strength?
We have noted, democracies are expanding, economies are building arms and countries are thriving to transform themselves to nation states. In these grim situations, what should we do? Nothing, focus on the national integration, become one nation and depress the promotion of national identities in the country.
More than that, we should build a strong society by infusing science and technology, philosophy, advancement in social sciences and acquire knowledge power and boost our capacity through lobbying with others because every country lobby with other country for its survival. We must seek to hammer out the country through building knowledge based society, empower the girls and boys because human capital is the ultimate tool for development, eradicate the system of injustice, give the fair rights to the deserving people and through peace agreements with our neighbors because violence is the last refuge of incompetent.
