Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan Army.

Why Pakistan army is selectively targeting Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Karachi is a big debate which is indispensably linked with, why in the second half of 1980s Pakistan army encouraged and facilitated the formation of MQM to detriment the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). PPP was a liberal and big party in that time and it was a menace to the authority of Pakistan army. Mean while, due to the courtesy of Pakistan army when the MQM became very strong and famous in 1990s, army instigated somewhat vicious and brutal operations against the same MQM to weaken it. To be simple, Pakistan army is not only targeting MQM, it is also targeting PPP and all other major and mainstream parties and aim to weaken the political parties of Pakistan hence this holy campaign of Pakistan army is nationwide.

Critics opinion that, the MQM is spreading terror and using terror as their only tool to get control of Karachi as a result military operation is important against MQM is not justified. Yes, to some extent they use terror as a tool to grip Karachi but, like other countries in the world Pakistan is also an underdeveloped, overpopulated and violent country, and all other Pakistan’s political parties are using violence. Political violence is resorted by the political parities because they don’t have any other option. So the political violence and terrorism are not interlinked and political violence is not terrorism.

If the objective of Pakistan army were terrorism, there are lot of terrorist parties, terrorist groups, terrorist organizations, terrorist agents and insurgent groups in Pakistan and it is important that Pakistan army should go after them and put halt to their activities.

The law enforcing agencies of Pakistan should moniter the maneuverings of Jamat-i-Islami, Jamiat-e-ulama-e- Islam, Hizbul Mujahideen and Jamatud dawa or Lashkar-e-taiba. What will be the consequences of weakening the political parties in Pakistan, of course jihadist groups will find space and it will be difficult for the country to manage other activities as its main force will be indulged in vanishing terrorism only. The economic activity which is already tumbling will further downturn and other evils will insinuated i-e poverty, revolts against the state, and street crimes. Finally, the democracy will precipitate and there will be very deplorable conditions in the country.
